Description

You really can't get a more striking plant for your late winter and spring garden than this beautiful Salix gracilistyla 'Mount Aso'. Also known as the Japanese Pink Pussy Willow, it is simply exquisite with its gorgeous pink fluffy catkins. These fuzzy bunny tails burst from the tight maroon buds as the temperature warms in early spring, bringing a splash of vibrant colour to your garden.

Perfect for a winter garden, the pussy-willow catkins start to appear from late winter and last well into the spring, and the stems are truly impressive when cut and brought into the house for an early flower display. This variety was bred for the cut-flower market, by a cut-flower arranger, so you know that the stems will make a great visual impact. As the season progresses, the tiny pink powder puffs gradually turn golden as the pollen emerges, bringing a subtle shift of colour to the whole bush, before the blue-green leaves emerge and form a magnificent backdrop to other plants and flowers in the garden.

Not just a pretty face, 'Mount Aso' is also known for its ability to tolerate pollution, salt sea air and damp areas - a truly versatile and useful plant! Supplied as an established plant in a 3L pot, ready to plant out. Growing to a height and spread of 2m, but it can be restricted by pruning.

Force blooms for cut-flower displays by cutting stems and placing them in water indoors as early as January.

Care Information

Water well until established - willow loves water!
Apart from keeping plants well-watered, they are virtually maintenance free - even pruning is simple, just prune out dead or old wood to encourage new shoots to appear.
Any shoots that have grown too long can also be shortened.
To keep size in check, plants can be coppiced every 2-3 years to encourage new growth from the base.

Although most plants are extremely tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme of weather conditions, we always avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme frosts or heat is forecast. We also avoid dispatching orders over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. If you have ordered a 'pre-order' item, these will be sent out as soon as possible after the quoted dispatch date and we generally ship your entire order with any pre-ordered items. Once your order has been dispatched, we will send you an email with details on how you can track it.

We send most of our orders via a fully tracked courier service with Yodel. We will send you a tracking link as soon as your order has been dispatched. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, we will not require a signature on delivery, and we ask out couriers to leave your item in a safe place ad your delivery address.
